Let's Talk "Hip Hinge"

“Just hinge at the hips.” Ummm, what? 🤨

⠀⠀

Let’s talk “hip hinge” and Romanian Deadlifts (RDL).

⠀⠀

A common thing that I see from my clients is that they have a difficult time shifting their weight back into a hip hinge posture to perform a RDL.

⠀⠀

So two drills that I like to use for this are:

⠀⠀

1)Elevate your toes on a five pound plates. The plates help shift your weight back and encourage you to get into more of a hip dominant stance as you go through the RDL.

⠀⠀

2)The second drill is called a “Box RDL”. You’ll want to set up a bench or box behind you, and get your calves as close to touching the box as you can without actually touching it. From there go through your normal RDL. As you go through the motion, your calves should be touching the bench. The contact from the bench is your feedback “telling” you to continue to sit back towards your heels as you go through the movement.

⠀⠀

I hope one of these drills helps you out. Let me know what you think! 👍🏼
